Subscription? Thought So.

With all the catching up I’ve been doing on my reading and writing, I’ve forgotten to remind you guys – some of you fresh off a restful vacation, I’m sure – that we’re having a subscription drive here at Politics From Left to Right.
Stand-alone journalism is an experiment, an attempt to see if what’s said on the web – without subscription barriers – can be kept alive with reader involvement that’s a little more active than just hitting the right click button. We all know that the web is an important way to exchanging ideas, to challenge the conventional wisdom, to get the word out. That’s exactly why it’s a good idea to support writers you find interesting, provocative or, well, worthy. So they – so I – can keep it up. You might agree all the time; you might not read every day. But you should think about the impact that another voice, another point of view is having on the political and cultural conversation. That’s not a new business model, I know. But it’s a contribution – a contribution to a grand experiment, one I think had great possibilities.

I’m a little cynical, however, so I’m not going to appeal solely to your sense of noble purpose in soliciting support. We have prizes! If you buy a subscription at $100 or more (and yes, many people do), we’ll put your name down for a chance at winning a special chef’s meal (no wine) at San Francisco’s tasty and chic Incato. Send us $50 to $100 – we’ve got a specially signed (by the artist and SF Mayor Gavin Newsom) poster commemorating San Francisco’s gay marriage marathon. Dropping $25 to $50 in the subscription box? We’ll put you in the raffle to win a box of Cowgirl Creamery cheeses (again, no wine, but we’ll send you some local recommendations, if you like).
Can’t say we’re cheap, unoriginal can you?
Save that thought and hit the PayPal button over there on the right. You don’t need a PayPal account to get a subscription, just look for the middle bar, the one between the dotted lines, that will allow credit card or instant check payments. Or send an old-fashioned paper check. Click here for more details on that.
Oh, yeah, and the prize offer is for those of you who get in before July 15th, 2004.
