A Geek Looks at Politics

Aug
10
2003

The Merc’s Dan Gillmor takes a look at Howard Dean’s campaign in his Sunday column and Dean’s campaign manager Joe Trippi ought to sit down right now and email him a big fat wet kiss.
Gillmor has no love of politicians or politics — take a look at his blog – but it’s a relief to finally see someone who knows about the Internet and it’s power talk about the Dean campaign.
This column is important because of Gillmor’s tremendous clout within the political disaffected Geek community. He speaks for them, clearly and eloquently, and they love him. He’s taking Dean’s candidacy seriously. He’s also not trashing it. That will speak to techies in ways that Dean financial boosters in Silicon Valley, Amy Rao, and Steve Kirsch, cannot.
